The process to becoming a member can take time, but is not difficult. There are only a few main requirements to become a Freemason in Illinois:
Be a male
Be 18 years of age or older
Reside in Illinois for at least the previous 6 months
Be prepared to profess a belief in God or other Supreme Being
Be of good character and have a reputation of honor and integrity
The process to become a Freemason can take some time, but it is absolutely worth the wait. Below is an example of a timeline from requesting a petition until your initiation:
Month 1 - You reach out to a friend/family member who is a Freemason and request a petition. If you do not know one, you may show up at a dinner or public event of the Lodge (we always have a dinner at 6:30pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month prior to our meeting), or you can submit a form to contact us.
Month 2 - The Lodge receives your petition and reads it during a Lodge meeting. An "investigating committee" will be formed and reach out to you to meet. The role of this committee is to validate the qualifying questions found on the petition. They are also there to take any questions you may have regarding Freemasonry, dues, what events we do, what time you can commit, etc.
Month 3 - The investigating committee reports back to the lodge. If favorable, the petition is put up for a ballot. The ballot must be returned unanimously in favor for your acceptance.
Month 4 - You will receive notice of your unanimous favorable ballot and request to schedule your initiation.
Month 5 - Your initiation ceremony occurs. From there, you will be able to take a seat as a member of the Lodge and prepare yourself to become a Fellowcraft, and later, a Master Mason, entitled to all the rights and benefits of full membership.
